Finding your dream dress is step one. Now it’s time to make sure that dress fits impeccably! Alterations can seem daunting, especially if you have a lot of work to be done. But don’t worry, here are some helpful tips to aid you in your fitting process.

Stick to a timeline

It’s extremely important to stay on schedule when altering your wedding dress. Have your first fitting about 6-8 weeks before your wedding.

Don’t forget to add alterations to your dress budget

When budgeting how much you want to spend on a dress, make sure you take into account the price of alterations. Prices can add up depending on what you need done. Like Lasting Bridal, many salons allow a free consultation with a seamstress to determine the price of your alterations.

Wear your wedding shoes to your first fitting

This tip is crucial if you’re planning on wearing heels in order to make sure your hem is picture perfect. If you haven’t chosen your shoes yet, bring shoes similar to the height you envision wearing.

Wear the undergarments you’ll wear on your wedding day

The bra you’re planning on wearing might alter the fit of the dress as well as any shapewear you will wear. Bring them along with you to ensure the best fit possible. Also, keep in mind that cups can be sewn into your dress if you prefer to go braless.

Plan for more than one fitting

You’ll have at least two fittings to make sure your dress fits flawlessly. Don’t worry if your dress isn’t perfect after your first fitting. Make sure your seamstress knows exactly what you want changed so everything is seamless on the last fitting.
